For this project, I needed to protect and preserve the existing hardwood floors as I remodeled the rest of the kitchen. This project included light rail moldings under the upper cabinets, which give an added degree of decorative covering to the Xenon undercabinet lighting. Also, notice the full height backsplash, which, like the counters, is Silestone engineered quartz.

This older split level was acquired by a young family with a toddler. As the centerpiece of renovations to be done before they moved in, I completely remodeled the kitchen and dining room into a single large space. I also cut through the existing wall between the kitchen and the family room on the lower level, so that there could be visual communication. This couple picked a beautiful espresso stain on the cabinets, set in stark contrast to the white quartz counters, and the lovely glass mosaic tile above the cooktop.

This beautiful home needed only a few tweaks to its layout to accommodate the extensive remodel. We removed the existing pantry closets to make room for additional cabinetry. The owners’ eye for detail included contrasting cabinetry for the island and stone mosaic tile for the backsplashes.

Although this kitchen had recently received a facelift, its design was not suited to today’s modern, active young family. Also, the existing small window limited the view of the extensive back yard, and limited the available daylight, Finally, the existing laundry/ mudroom adjacent to the kitchen was determined to be taking up square footage that could be put to far better use improving the storage space and efficiency of the kitchen. In the new kitchen, we removed the existing laundry/mudroom and created a new laundry in the basement. We removed the two existing small windows and brought increased light into the kitchen with a single picture window, which also yields a commanding view of the screen porch and backyard. A new central island replaces the existing peninsula; the existing hardwood floors were extended throughout the new kitchen.

This spacious home was a perfect candidate for updates. Working under an architect’s guidance, we removed existing false ceiling beams and crown molding, along with a partial partition between the dining area and kitchen. The existing finish flooring was removed and replaced with new hardwood to blend with the rest of the first floor, so that the entire kitchen feels larger. Finally, by increasing the height of the wall cabinets from 30” to 36” and reducing soffit height to 6”, we were able to achieve a classic look with increased storage, while still being able to conceal ductwork. We also replaced the existing window unit and sliding door with high quality custom units.

This lovely home bears the distinction of having had me remodel the kitchen – and then redo it again 15 years later! The owners entertain frequently, so they asked me to build in a cabinet unit opposite the main part of the kitchen to act as a permanent buffet. This buffet cabinetry includes glass doors and other decorative accents. The problem of lack of available wall space for hot-water baseboard radiators was solved by the use of hydronic kickspace heaters, one at either end of the room. The owners report that these units function flawlessly.
